If you are considering working on your property either to improve the EPC rating or simply enhance the property’s environmental credentials, it is important to select your suppliers carefully. One helpful tip is to look for suppliers that are PAS 2030 certified. PAS 2030 is a certification suppliers can achieve that demonstrates their installations are compliant. This is part of the PAS 2035 framework, which establishes which criteria must be met for a successful energy retrofit of a property.
The important benefit of this is that any supplier with this accreditation should approach a retrofit in the most beneficial way, for all parties.
For more specific options please see the list below.
Not a supplier as such but a good place to start. You can search their website to find Trustmark registered suppliers, with registered suppliers subject to a degree of scrutiny and support if things should go wrong. As the only government-endorsed scheme and with each supplier required to have a two-year warranty it should be a good first port of call if you don’t have an existing relationship.
The main negative feedback we have seen is that you may not necessarily get a response from the suppliers listed on the website.
Again not a supplier as such, but a website you can use to connect with suppliers that are part of the retrofit cooperative. The interesting thing about this organisation is that they specifically focus on suppliers and improvements that produce energy-saving results.
The main drawback at the moment is that they do not necessarily cover the whole of the UK.
MCS is a standards organisation that certifies products as well as installers. It specialises in certifying low-carbon products and those that specialise in installing them. There is a complaints procedure in place, however, this is more like a mediation process rather than a ‘guarantee’ MCS is recommended by the energy-saving trust.
As you might expect the energy-saving trust contains useful advice and information on a number of relevant areas, including how to source a reputable installer. You can get further information on their website including a recommendation to use a supplier from the competent person scheme
