Sustainable Future

The UK government has a target of achieving a net-zero carbon emissions by 2050. This is the context for measures such as the new EPC target and other similar initiatives. This overall target is likely to drive a number of initiatives over the next decade.

58.5 million tonnes of CO2

Research from the National Housing Federation calculates that the UK’s ‘leaky’ homes produce 58.5 million tonnes of CO2 every year. This is actually more than is produced by the UK’s 27 million cars and 15% of the UK’s total greenhouse gas emissions. This is primarily the result of gas central heating combined with poor insulation. This is one illustration of the reason for the government targeting making homes more energy-efficient.

Impact on Landlords

It is in this context that the government has announced a ban on Gas boilers in new build homes by 2025 and likely more to follow. Regardless of what we may think of this, the point is that there will be lots of changes that will impact landlords. Part of what we will try to do is help landlords understand this context and adapt in a cost-effective way.
